Al Bernstein was my acting teacher at George Brown College in the Acting for Media Arts program. He taught myself and fourteen other students a course called Scene Study from September to December 2018. Al gave me the courage to trust my instincts and the patience to fall and get back up again. He always made himself available to discuss questions or concerns about what we were working on. Any time I needed help with an assignment, I got it. As an observer, I notice Al adjusts his teaching style to fit the individual’s level of experience. He never discourages anyone so long as they are willing to learn.
Al has proven to be very knowledgeable in a number of genres. He taught us about dramatic, period, and comedic scenes. He was always very attentive and made sure that everyone felt like they were progressing. He reminded me to trust in myself and the work. He never hesitates to jump up and become involved in the scene to show us different ways of approaching the work. Al is very energetic and always positive about this work.
As a student, it is comforting to know he loves what he is doing. He doesn’t make any of us feel like we are beneath him. We are all working together to create, and he makes that very clear. Even when problems arise between classmates, Al handles it in a calm and helpful way.
I think he is an incredible teacher and any acting student would be lucky to work with him. I am forever grateful for the lessons he taught me and the encouragement he gave me. He reminded us that we are enough as we are and we need to trust in that. I trust in him and his ability to shape young actors for the future of this craft.

Though we are new in the Media field, our Dance and Theatre departments are much respected across the country. We were pleasedto be able to offer programs in Media including our Acting for Media program. We were pleased to have Al join our program tohelp build it into an amazing practical acting program which draws 300 applicants for 26 spots. It is due to having grounded,respected professionals teaching our students in the entertainment industry that we continue to garnish respect from the field.
Mr. Bernstein serves as a professor in the Winter semester, teaching Scene Study II. Al has been on our faculty staff for four years. He has proven to be an excellent, experienced, and enthusiastic teacher throughout the years. His is an original thinker in the field of acting technique and continues to further his education by attending workshops in all areas like Gender Diversity and Inclusivity. He is a well-respected member of the Association of Acting Coaches and Educators in the Toronto area plus he received excellentevaluations from his students, who commented on his knowledge, enthusiasm, and the time and care he put into his instruction of-them.

Mr. Bernstein serves as an instructor for our Screen Acting classes teaching On Camera Scene Study. He has already proven himself as an integral part of the school in just his first semester. Along with teaching responsibilities as an acting instructor, he researches scripts, scenes, acting techniques and directs our short film productions. He has received excellent evaluations from his students, who commented on his knowledge, enthusiasm, and the time and care he put into his instruction of them.
