Retired founding Director of the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center, I'm a director, actor, playwright, and coach with decades of experience. I work with beginning students and seasoned adults on audition monologues, scene study, character choices, stage presence, and confidence. Beginner training plan
Your first classIn the first lesson, I focused on learning where the student is right now. Their experience goals, strengths and challenges, and expectations from there. We identify the next practical step. Whether that means building basic confidence, preparing an audition piece, strengthening technique, or making more specific acting choices.
Class 2-3In kessons two and three, we build on the first session and begin turning goals into practice.We may review homework, choose or refine a monologue work on character research or develop vocal and physical tools such as breath support, projection posture and core strength.The goal is steady progress toward clearer, stronger, more confident performance.
Class 4-10By lessons four through ten, we begin applying the earlier exercises to real performance materials such as monologues, scenes, songs or audition pieces. Students work on consistency, emotional truth, vocal and physical safety, and making choices they can repeat. They also learn how to take direction, adjust their interpretation, and use feedback to strengthen the performance.
Class 11+After lesson ten, students begin developing the habits of a practicing performer. We focus on sustaining performances over time, protecting the voice and body, staying emotionally and physically healthy and keeping choices fresh and repeatable. For students pursuing theatre more seriously, we may also address audition strategy, professionalism career preparation, and how to keep training while seeking the next opportunity.
What you need to bringBring a water bottle, comfortable shoes, and clothes you can move in. For audition coaching, bring any monologues, scenes, songs, or sides you are preparing. We’ll discuss appropriate audition attire—polished, practical, and character-aware without becoming a costume—and how to keep hair/face/eyes visible.
What I can bringBasic video support for self-tape/audition practice; help selecting monologues and scenes; character and context research guidance; audition-prep materials; rehearsal notes; and individualized practice assignments between lessons.
