I focus on building trust and assessing skill level while introducing core fundamentals. We start with a light jog and dynamic stretches, followed by simple throwing, catching, and hitting drills to gauge where they are. I break down basic mechanics how to grip and throw the ball, how to set up for a swing, and the ready position for fielding. I keep it fun, ask questions to engage them, and assign two simple drills for home: wall ball and mirror swing practice.
At this point, we focus on game readiness, position-specific drills, and mental sharpness. I tailor drills to their field position and record videos of their swing or throw to give real feedback. They’ll run game-like scenarios: bunt defense, cutoffs, and pressure baserunning. I emphasize pre-game routines, leadership, and handling pressure. We also set goals tracking progress in throwing accuracy, bat speed, and fielding consistency to fuel growth and confidence.
These lessons are about building consistency, increasing game awareness, and strengthening core skills. We rotate through throwing drills (like long toss and relays), advanced fielding (double plays, pop flies), hitting off the tee and live toss, and smart base running (taking leads, tagging up). I also start light scrimmage situations and coach them on handling mistakes and supporting teammates. They begin to feel like real ballplayers during this phase.
These lessons reinforce throwing, fielding, and hitting mechanics while introducing basic baseball IQ. I guide them through throwing with a crow hop, glove-side fielding, and soft toss hitting. We introduce base running basics and where each position plays on the field. Players begin to build muscle memory through structured, repeatable drills, and we add fun challenges like who can field 10 clean grounders or hit a target the most times.
