About your basketball coach
I've been coaching at the high school level for the last 17 years, first w/9th and 10th grade girls at Taft Charter High School in Woodland Hills, CA., for 8 years. I coached freshman/sophomore and JV boys for the next 8 years at Taft. I was an assistant coach on the 2023 L.A. City Section boys' championship winning team there as well. I was responsible for organizing practice sessions and instructing players on basketball skills, drills, and techniques.

Beginner training plan
Your first trainingI would first have them work on stationary dribbling. Favorite drill: 2-ball dribbling.
Training 2-3I would have them continue working on dribbling, then add other drills (i.e., shooting or passing). Favorite drill: shooting on the move, at the elbows.
Training 4-10I would add layers to the drills that the students are already learning (i.e., speed dribbling, shooting on the move). Favorite drill, rebound tip drill.
Training 11+I would combine the drills that the student is already working on (i.e.,passing, dribbling, shooting, defense). If I'm working with more than one student, then I would have them practice with each other. Favorite drill: 3 on 2, 2 on 1 full court drill.
Youth players
Working with kidsI will try to meet the kids where they are based on their skill level.
Working with teenagersI have seventeen years of experience working with teenagers.
