Goal: Assess and establish foundation
• Brief intro chat to understand their goals and experience level.
• Evaluate athletic stance, running form, and ball-handling basics.
• Teach:
• Proper 2- or 3-point stance
• How to hold and secure the football (5 points of pressure)
• Basic sprint, backpedal, lateral shuffle
• Finish with fun footwork ladders or cone zigzags for agility.
Goal: Polish skills & prepare for live competition
• Full-speed reps with game-like tempo
• Combos: Route with catch → tuck → evade; or drop back → read → throw
• Mental reps: Walkthroughs of plays or scenarios
• Film study (if available) or self-assessment drills with video recording
• Test skills in mini 1v1 reps (Coach simulates opponent)
• Start incorporating conditioning circuits built around position (speed ladder + sled + break drills)
Goal: Install position-specific skills & introduce game situations
Tailor to the player’s preferred position:
• QB: 3-step, 5-step drops, throwing on the move, play-action footwork
• WR: Full route tree, breaks, high-pointing the ball, hand positioning
• RB: Jump cuts, vision drills, ball security under duress
• DB: Backpedal into breaks, man coverage, tracking deep balls
• LB: Lateral shuffle into fills, breakdown and strike posture, pursuit angles
Game IQ focus:
• Down and distance
• Play recognition (simple)
• Situational awareness (e.g., when to run out of bounds or take a knee)
Goal: Build coordination, footwork, and reaction time
• Introduce position-neutral skill sets:
• Cone footwork drills (L-drill, pro agility)
• Hand-eye coordination with tennis ball or juggling drills
• Reaction time drills using verbal or visual cues
• Begin throwing mechanics (if QB) or catching drills (if WR/RB/DB)
• Teach:
• Route running basics: slant, out, go
• Defensive mirror drills (if on D)
• End each session with light conditioning and a fun mini-challenge.
• Begin with an open convo about goals: recruiting, performance, leadership, etc.
• Position-specific evaluation under fatigue (e.g., WR runs route tree after cone conditioning, DB reads hips after shuffle-ladders).
• Film a few reps to break down mechanics together.
• Correct technique right away and set a tone of high accountability.
• Simulate live-game scenarios with full progression trees.
• Focus on:
• Reading pre-snap coverages (film + field)
• Adjusting to blitzes, rolling coverages
• Situational decision making (4th down, final drive, clock strategy)
• Emphasize leadership presence, voice projection, and on-field control.
• Develop personal film sessions with athlete reviewing technique and results.
• Prep for camps, showcases, or upcoming seasons with live tempo workouts + recovery plans.
• Full-speed reactive drills with coach dictating changes mid-rep.
• Route breaks vs. shadow coverage (coach mirror or use cones as DBs).
• Defensive disguise + recovery drills (for DBs and LBs).
• QB off-platform throws, WRs adjust to late throws, RBs read flow keys, LBs scrape & fill with redirect.
• Weekly challenge: 1 elite-level drill circuit under strict timer.
• Introduce cognitive layer: hand signal calls, play recall, audibles.
• Drill advanced footwork patterns and break transitions (top-of-route tempo for WRs, pocket resets for QBs, crossover drive from DB stance).
• Install situational reps: 3rd down reads, red zone body control, 2-minute offense/defense awareness.
• Add tools: resistance bands, medicine balls, weighted footballs.
• Focus on movement efficiency and mental reaction speed.
