I’m a skilled instructor and patient teacher of golf, dedicated to helping students of all levels improve their game. I’ve competed in amateur tournaments around the world, gaining valuable insights along the way. I hold a Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology from Purdue University, which enhances my coaching approach and helps me connect with my students on a deeper level. My goal is to empower each player to their full potential and enjoy the game to the fullest. My name is Phillip Greene and I have been working with Craig Matthews as my golf instructor. We started out with a few lessons, but as we progressed, I was so excited with the improvements that I signed my son Bryson up to learn from Craig as well.
Craig can spot the fundamental flaws in a golf swing and he was patient until we fixed those primary problems before moving on. He constantly encourages us, and is one of the most positive influences in my son’s life now, even beyond golf!

I came to Craig while he was teaching in Thailand to learn how to improve my short game and overall scoring. Craig had just finished competing, and took the time to work with me at the practice facility for two hours!
After the first lesson, Craig reached out to ensure I was working on the techniques we covered, and even shared videos that highlighted the lesson.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe will cover basics such as how to hold the golf club properly, proper posture, and the 3 basic components of the golf swing: backswing, downswing, and follow through. My favorite drill is the “no look” drill which introduces the student to the importance of keeping their head down and still through and after contact with the short chip shot and putt.
Lesson 11+After 10 lessons a beginner student will be able to play 9 holes of golf, successfully advancing the golf ball towards the target with consistency, hitting shots both low and high and generating proper back spin on the golf ball.
Lesson 4-10Lessons 4-10 will establish comfort hitting all 14 clubs in the golf bag, making consistent repeatable contact with the golf ball.
Lesson 2-3A beginner can expect to be able to make a repeatable short swing and putt making consistent contact with the golf ball, advancing it adequately towards the target.
Youth players
Working with kidsAs a prior middle school P.E teacher, I understand the importance of establishing self belief and confidence in beginning youth students. I do this by breaking the lesson down to small, achievable segments allowing the child to experience successes in their actions. In addition I allow the child to choose between a variety of exercises, which initiates engagement in the lesson. Keeping the lessons fun and exciting is the key.
Working with teenagersI find that teenagers learn best through effective leadership and strong coaching skills. Often, lessons are developed using challenges that are goal oriented and competitive. Establishing trust is key.
