Michael grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and started playing golf from a young age. He went to university in Georgia and after a decent college career turned pro and played the mini tours in Florida, then the Australian tour and South African Sunshine tour. After a couple of years as a playing professional, he went through the PGA training in the UK and became a teaching pro at Blackmoor GC in Southern England. Michael then took a job with well renown European Tour teacher, Jamie Gough at this golf school in Cape Town. Michael worked there for 3 years before moving to Europe and spending 8 years teaching in Germany and Switzerland before moving to America. Michael also spent time caddying/managing on the European Tour in the 2005, he has done 3 TPI classes through the Titleist Performance Institute as well as many other classes, courses to grow his knowledge. Michael enjoys teaching players of all skill levels from beginners to tour players. Michael still plays a lot of golf and you can find him tinkering with his swing or playing a variety of courses in his free time. He also loves to cook and explore the beauty of Northern California.

Michael is clearly a very experienced coach and knows everything about what a swing should look like. He is patient and very nice, and I’m sure is a wonderful coach for some people. I came into the session a ~12 handicap, and left a ~50 handicap. I had never had a lesson, and definitely didn’t have a conventionally perfect swing, but it was at least consistent for me, outside of some issues slicing my driver. It felt like Michael wanted to completely rebuild my swing from scratch to look more like a conventional tour player. Unfortunately, it was just too much information to process (10-15 new components of my swing), and I didn’t get the feel for any one of them. I left unable to hit any club consistently, and really lost my ability to enjoy a round of golf. My swing looked a lot closer to a tour player swing on video by the end of the round, but I couldn’t do anything consistently and left not knowing what to do with any club in my bag. I would recommend Michael to others with a strong starting point or no starting point, but wasn’t a fit for me trying to meet me where I was in my game to help improve consistency. I am planning to take a very long break from the game and hopefully get out of my own head and re-learn something that works for me in the future.

As a swing coach myself, I’m pretty hard to impress. Absolutely incredible. Video analysis, TrackMan numbers, incredible knowledge of the golf swing, in depth but simple.
