Beginner training plan
Your first lessonLesson 1: Grip • Objective: Introduce the proper grip to control the club and make solid contact. • Instruction: • Teach the basic grip types: interlock, overlap, and ten-finger (baseball grip). • Emphasize hand positioning and grip pressure—light but firm. • Demonstrate how a proper grip helps with clubface control. • Practice: Use a short iron or wedge, focusing on short chip shots with a goal of 10-15 yards to get comfortable with the grip.
Lesson 2-3Lesson 2: Setup • Objective: Establish a consistent and balanced setup. • Instruction: • Teach the basics of stance: feet shoulder-width apart, slight knee flex, and bending at the hips. • Explain ball position in relation to different clubs (shorter irons have the ball in the center; longer clubs slightly forward). • Highlight the importance of aligning the shoulders, hips, and feet parallel to the target. • Practice: Continue with 10-15 yard shots while focusing on repeating the proper setup before each shot. Lesson 3: Balance • Objective: Build an understanding of how balance affects the swing. • Instruction: • Teach weight distribution: even weight between both feet, with a little more on the balls of the feet. • Emphasize maintaining balance during the swing and finishing with weight on the lead foot. • Use drills to reinforce staying balanced throughout the motion. • Practice: Gradually increase hitting distance while maintaining focus on grip, setup, and balance for consistent, controlled shots.
