About your guitar coach

I’ve been a working musician and instructor for over 25 years, teaching guitar, bass, piano, and music theory across a wide range of styles. While I specialize in Gypsy Jazz and advanced jazz theory, I’m also fluent in the genres most students want to learn — from blues, rock, R&B, and neo-soul to gospel, worship, and modern Christian music. For guitar, I teach everything from improvisation and theory to authentic Gypsy picking technique. On bass, I focus especially on gospel and pocket playing, building solid groove and feel. On piano, I cover jazz harmony, gospel voicings (including four-way close / locked hands), and neo-soul textures. I help students bridge the gap between theory and sound — learning how to express what they hear in their heads, not just memorize shapes or scales. Whether you read standard notation or just tab, I break things down in a way that makes sense and connects directly to the music you want to play. Beyond technical skill, I teach from experience — through years of real struggle, personal transformation, and the realization that music can be a true form of freedom. I’m here to help you grow not just as a player, but as an artist

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIn the first lesson with a beginner, my main goal is to make them feel comfortable and inspired. I start by asking a few quick questions to understand what kind of music they love and what motivated them to learn. From there, I give them a clear, simple path that connects directly to that style — whether it's learning a basic chord progression, a simple melody, or even just how to hold the instrument with confidence. I don’t overload them with theory right away — instead, I show them how to make real music from day one. I’ll break things down in a way that’s easy to follow, and I’ll make sure they leave the first lesson hearing and playing something that excites them. At the same time, I lay the groundwork for proper technique and long-term growth, so they don’t pick up bad habits early on. My approach is patient, hands-on, and focused on building confidence, connection, and curiosity
Lesson 11+ the first 10 lessons, the focus shifts from just learning how to play into learning how to play well — with musicality, creativity, and confidence. This is where things get exciting. Depending on their goals, we start working on more advanced skills like: Improvisation and soloing Understanding harmony and how songs are built Learning songs by ear Creating original ideas (riffs, progressions, melodies) Developing groove and feel in different styles Playing with backing tracks or live musicians Applying theory in a way that makes sense and feels natural We also start exploring their personal sound — shaping their phrasing, dynamics, and tone. Whether they want to write, record, play live, or just keep improving, I tailor the lessons to get them there. My goal after lesson 10 is to develop them into a self-sufficient musician who doesn’t just copy — but creates, understands, and expresses. It becomes about mastery, not just memorization.
Lesson 4-10In lessons 4 and 10, beginners start to experience real breakthroughs. This is where the playing starts to feel more natural, and the instrument becomes something they can truly express themselves with. We’ll start building a solid core of musical skills: For guitar or piano, that includes clean chord transitions, rhythm confidence, and playing full songs. For bass, it means locking into grooves, learning basic fills, and developing pocket. Across all instruments, I start introducing ear training, simple improvisation, and foundational music theory — always tied to the kind of music they love. By lesson 6 or 7, most students can confidently play along with recordings or jam tracks. I also begin teaching how to build and memorize chord progressions, recognize common patterns in songs, and improvise over simple changes. By lesson 10, they’ll not only be playing real music, but also understanding what they’re doing — with a clear path forward. My goal is to make sure they’re not just memorizing things, but truly growing into independent, expressive musicians with a strong foundation.
Lesson 2-3In the second and third lessons, the focus is on building momentum. Now that they’ve gotten comfortable with the instrument, we start locking in foundational skills — like changing between basic chords smoothly, getting consistent rhythm, or playing a short melody by ear or tab, depending on their goals. I also start introducing very simple theory concepts in a way that connects directly to what they’re playing — like how chords are built, or how to recognize patterns on the fretboard or keyboard. We’ll reinforce proper technique, and I’ll give exercises that are fun and musical, not just drills. By lesson three, they’ll already feel themselves improving — they’ll be playing real music, understanding what they're doing, and starting to feel confident in how they move around their instrument. Each step is tailored to their speed and style, but I always make sure they’re learning in a way that’s exciting, not overwhelming.

What you need to bringYou should bring you're own personal instrument as I encourage this because of the comfortability, and established muscle memory.

What I can bringBeginner piano keybord, intermediate and advanced piano l/keyboard 6 string nylon classical guitar. 6string acoustic guitar
