Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFor lacrosse athletes, I want to start with the basics of passing, catching and movement. Find the player’s strengths and weaknesses to focus on. Would start with a partner passing drill to focus on technique and footwork. Progress to dodging on cones to learn proper ball security and technique. Like to finish each beginner session with time and room shooting.
Lesson 4-10Can expect to work a lot of two-handed drills, always using both hands to develop a balanced player. Further development on the players athleticism and lacrosse deficiencies.
Lesson 2-3Based on the players ability I assess in session 1. I will structure a plan to start with a very technical drill, and build off of that form practiced at the start. For example drop step shooting, into two step shooting, into catch and shoot scenarios. Make the player focus on form early to keep emphasis on technique as the drill gets more involved.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonTalk to the player and learn where they’re at both athletically and on the lacrosse field. My plan will depend on their goals as an athlete and player. I can help experienced players develop speed and become faster through all phases of the game. I can help a great athlete develop elite stick skills and dodging. I can help a defender cause more turnovers and become a threat with the ball. I can help refine a players skills and technique at any position.
Lesson 2-3Footwork or strength based lacrosse drills to begin. Progress to lots of reps in drills that challenge the player. Finish with a drill that combines reaction and decision making.

Youth players
Working with kidsYoung kids stay focused and engaged because they’re having fun. All my sessions would be structured to develop the player while showing how great Lacrosse can be and the freedom within the game you have as a player.

Working with teenagersTeenagers want to be challenged but they don’t want to feel defeated at the same time. Most teenage players have some experience so I want to build on what they excel at and teach how to improve their deficiencies as a player. Many time bad playing habits have been formed and need to be improved.

What you need to bringLacrosse stick, helmet and gloves if available and extra padding as needed.

What I can bring6x6 goal, Lacrosse balls, equipment, athletic training equipment

Jayden
Great instructor with high attention to detail. Focuses on building lacrosse skills without bad habits and helping students understand why they are being coached that way. Massive improvement to off-hand skills, shooting and dodging.
Jack
Coach Avery helped me in both private and team settings improve as an offensive player. Shooting and dodging improved drastically from freshman to sophomore seasons to become a leading scorer on the St. Joe varsity team.
Freddy
Coach Avery helped me become a better player and offensive threat with the ball. My stick protection and dodging abilities improved drastically over my freshman season at St. Joe.
Mason
Coach Avery helped me transition from d-mid to close/LSM going into my sophomore year. He taught me takeaway checks, defensive positioning and ground ball play. My increased confidence and skill with a long pole allowed me to lead our defense at St. Joe.
Isaac
Took one lesson with Coach Avery to learn lacrosse basics before playing the first time. While I did not end up playing the sport, he was able to teach me the basic fundamentals of passing, catching, stick handling and movement as a lacrosse player. Coach Avery is able to provide detailed feedback to help a new player.
