Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThe first lesson is about getting to know the player. Through some basic drills, I will gain insight into the players strengths and areas of improvement. From here, the rest of the first lesson will be focused on fundamentals such as form for cradling and passing.
Lesson 11+Lessons 11+ will be spent narrowing the drills to focus on specific goals the athlete wants to achieve. Whether it’s being able to run faster while cradling, become better at catching the ball, or have their passes be more accurate, the drills and games will help the athlete feel more confident in their skills and play of the game.
Lesson 4-10Lessons 4-10 are adjusted depending on how quickly the athlete picks up the proper form and skills of lacrosse. Through drills such as hungry hippos, Easter egg hunt, and relay races, I can help guide the athlete through faster paced application of skills.
Lesson 2-3Lessons 2-3 will focus on practice, improvement and implementing the form we learned in lesson 1. In addition, lesson 2-3 we will begin working on ground balls and shooting. Through fun drills we will begin to build the repetition and practice of fundamental skills of the athletes play.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonMy first lesson with advanced players is always an assessment of their skills and play. Depending on the player’s position, the drills will incorporate both fundamental basics of lacrosse such as passing, ground balls, catching, and shooting as well as some more advanced drills specified to their position on the field. I always end my sessions with a fun target practice game for shooting or a fun relay.
Lesson 11+Lessons 11+ will continue with focusing on target areas. When in season, it is important to bring footage of their play to watch with the athlete, or have the athlete review how they felt in their play, where do they feel they need more practice? In what plays or skills do they feel most confident and least confident? In addition, I incorporate agility and speed drills into my sessions to ensure that my players are adapting to quick play and have the speed necessary to stay on top of their game performance.
Lesson 4-10Lessons 4-10 will be where the athletes skills begin to truly see improvement in their target areas. I will be able to measure the improvement in performance and assist the athlete with ensuring that the form maintains correctness throughout development. We will also incorporate more game type scenarios and drills into sessions ensuring that we apply the skills we build to “game speed”.
Lesson 2-3Lessons 2-3 will be spent narrowing down the players goals based upon their strengths and areas of improvement. Once these goals are clarified our sessions can be mapped out to directly focus on specific drills. I ensure that each player is practicing with both dominant as well as non dominant hands, and we never skip going back to the fundamental skills.

Youth players
Working with kidsMany of my lessons with kids include fun games and drills such as hungry hippos, chase the bacon, capture the flag, and relay races. All of which we will work on building fundamental skills for the game of lacrosse. In addition, my lessons with kids often focus on cradling, passing, and catching. These are the first skills each player should develop confidence in. I begin by helping young athletes have proper form at a stand still and build to walking and to running while executing these skills. Confidence is so important for young athletes, so focus is always on celebrating their wins and supporting them through their areas of improvement.

Working with teenagersTeenagers are fun and dynamic! They come with spice and joy and lots of energy. Working with teenagers has been one of my favorite parts of my role of a coach. For teenagers, it is important to establish a relationship built in mutual trust so they feel safe and supported through our lessons. Assessing the athletes play is the first step. Identifying their strengths and areas of improvement gives a clear path to what drills and games we want to focus on in our first few lessons. It is also always important that we exercise both their dominant and non dominant hands through drills. With teenage athletes, it is also easier to identify what their goals of improvement are for their performance. Through conversations, assessments of their games or practices, or end of session debriefs, I want to make sure the athlete feels seen, heard, supported and always a leading voice in their sessions.
