Coach Josh is not only knowledgeable about the game but also patient, encouraging, and motivating with the kids. He pushes them to do their best while keeping practices fun and positive. The growth we’ve seen in both skills and confidence is amazing. You can really tell he cares about his players on and off the field. Highly recommend South Texas Lacrosse and Coach Josh to anyone looking for a supportive and competitive program!

Coach Josh loves the game and he loves teaching it to the kids. He takes an approach of not yelling at you if you're doing something wrong but showing you how to do it right. He helped me get way better at the game and understand it more than ever before. I loved having him as my coach and would recommend anyone who wants their kids to learn from one of the best to go to him.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonAssess - I'll watch the player take about 5 shots. I do not want to re-build a player's shooting mechanics. My goal is to take the aspects that the player does well, and emphasize those. Through this lens, we correct deficiencies. Example: "Your hips are coming through quickly & smoothly, but you are cradling the ball too much and it is causing you to delay rotating your hips.":
Lesson 11+Lacrosse ID:
Asking quiz questions while running through stickwork drills. Reminders about footwork, positioning of teammates, and when/why/how certain shot opportunities arise!
Lesson 4-10High-volume lacrosse shooting reps.
I will repeat important phrases that are important for the player to bear in mind:
•100lb Ball
•Feet first
•Hips for power, arms for accuracy
•What is a "Good miss"?
Lesson 2-3Build skills around the shot. Work to shoot/score after receiving a bad pass. Find a way to shoot when in an awkward or uncomfortable position. Split to your off hand for a shot on the run.
Also this is when I will talk about adjustments from the other team, and how we recognize & adapt to those adjustments.
