Beginner training plan
Your first lessonUnderstanding the game, learning the history of the game, and basic stick handling is the focus of the first lesson.
This is when myself and the athletes will get to know about each other. I like to take this time to try and evaluate their learning style, athleticism, and body type. Every athlete is different and lacrosse caters to all athletes. It’s important to me as a coach to understand every athlete.
We will also go over the basics of catching, passing, and ground balls.
Lesson 11+After becoming familiar with the athlete and establishing their position on the field. I can fully tailor practices to optimize their learning, strength and conditioning, and overall experience with lacrosse. Practices will still include warmups, dynamic stretches, plyometrics/athletic training, fundamental work, positional work, concept work, and conditioning. However, practice plans will be scheduled accordingly to each athlete and where they are at mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Lesson 4-10At this point I may have a stronger understanding of the athlete and can try them out for different positions. As we start to ramp up their routine it’s important to focus not just on lacrosse but on strength and conditioning. Some days will be more lacrosse focused while other days will focus more on strength and conditioning. Schedules vary depending on the athlete.

Lesson 2-3Becoming comfortable and confident with our stick, understanding it as an extension of our body.
The main focus will be on details of how to properly hold the stick, cradle, play ground balls, move on the field.
For a beginner, they likely do not know what position best suits them. So I do not try to fit them into any position at this point. I will mainly run through fundamental drills to get a good evaluation of their skill set and strong points.
Every practice begins with a warm up lap and dynamic stretching.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, I adapt lacrosse lessons to be fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate, creating an environment where they feel excited to learn and confident in their growth. My ultimate goal is to help grow the game of lacrosse by introducing it to young athletes in a way that sparks passion and builds a solid foundation of skills and sportsmanship. I believe that kids are at a highly influential stage in their lives, and this is a powerful opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact—not just as a coach, but as a role model. By teaching the values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience through lacrosse, I aim to help shape well-rounded individuals who carry those lessons with them both on and off the field.
Working with teenagersWhen working with teenagers, I adapt my coaching approach to meet them where they are—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Teen athletes are at a unique stage where they begin to take the game more seriously and are capable of deeper understanding, more advanced skill development, and increased responsibility. I focus on challenging them with higher-level drills, introducing strategy and positional play, and encouraging self-discipline and leadership. At the same time, I recognize that this is a formative period in their lives, where positive mentorship can have a lasting impact. My goal is not only to help them grow as lacrosse players but to use the game as a platform to teach life skills such as accountability, teamwork, and perseverance. By building strong relationships and fostering a growth mindset, I aim to inspire them to stay committed, push their limits, and hopefully develop a lifelong love for the game.
