Even as a tennis player, DJ was able to explain how to incorporate some aspects from tennis to carry over and made sure not to fall for the “3rd shot drop” and play the game my own way

Beginner training plan

Your first lessonFor beginners there are two categories: one that has no racquet sport experience and those who have. For the ones that have not had racquet sport experience it is important to learn grip and proper ground strokes. For the racquet sport beginners we can start with some of the common mistakes made by their previous sport transitioning into pickle.

Lesson 11+Being comfortable with transition and recognizing when to attack

Lesson 4-10Touch and soft game. Yes I will teach you how to dink lol. Talk about how to dink w aggression and defensive and focus on certain patterns.

Lesson 2-3Learning to be aggressive. Too many people are taught the soft game early on in my opinion. Volleys and ground strokes normally win at the 2.5-3.5 level.

Your first lessonDo my warmup drill (front facing dinking, cross court dinking, hands, transition, and 3 alive) to assess strengths and weaknesses in their game.

Lesson 11+Continue fundamental work while implementing strategy with a purpose

Lesson 4-10Strategy and recognizing opponent patterns. While elevating fundamentals to a higher level

Lesson 2-3Work on what weak points were with specific drill catered to the drill.

I am a current collegiate pickleball player for the University of Texas at Dallas. I have a 4.0+ DUPR rating and have competitive tournament experience. I excel in teaching the 3.0-3.5 range in getting to the next level. With no prior racquet sport experience, I have a unique perspective on the sport. I also am well aware of tennis players transitioning over and can teach the nuances of pickleball in a way tennis players can understand.
