Youth players
Working with kids 1. Make it Fun • Incorporate games, challenges, and rewards. • Keep the energy high with positive reinforcement and excitement. 2. Shorten Lesson Segments • Limit drills to 5-10 minutes per activity to maintain attention. • Alternate between skills and games to keep things interesting. 3. Use Age-Appropriate Equipment • Smaller paddles and lighter balls if needed. • Lower the net or use temporary markers (like cones) for a shorter court. 4. Focus on Play Over Perfection • Encourage effort and creativity rather than perfect technique. • Allow them to experiment with different strokes and strategies. 5. Group Dynamics • Encourage teamwork if teaching in groups. • Use small groups or pairs to keep everyone active.

Working with teenagers1. Keep It Interactive and Social • Teens often thrive in group settings, so incorporate team-based drills and games. • Use doubles play to encourage communication and teamwork. 2. Add a Competitive Element • Teenagers enjoy competition, so include challenges, mini-games, and tournaments. • Set goals, like streaks of volleys or rally lengths, to keep them motivated. 3. Explain the Why • Briefly explain why certain skills or strategies are important (e.g., controlling the net gives you an advantage). 4. Incorporate Modern Influences • Use relatable language or references. • Share examples of popular players or fun videos to inspire them. 5. Increase the Challenge Gradually • As they master the basics, introduce faster-paced drills, advanced shots, and strategic thinking.
