Beginner training plan
Your first lessonLesson 1 – Introduction & Fundamentals We’ll start by assessing your current skill level and introducing the basic rules of pickleball. You’ll learn the proper grip, stance, and basic mechanics of forehand and backhand strokes. We’ll also cover court positioning and footwork, ensuring you understand how to move efficiently. Simple drills will help build hand-eye coordination and get you comfortable with rallying.
Lesson 11+Lessons 11+ – Match Play & Confidence Building Finally, we’ll put all your skills into action with structured match play, incorporating the techniques and strategies you’ve learned. We’ll focus on refining your shot selection, decision-making, and movement under pressure. You’ll also develop a better understanding of game tactics and strategy, helping you become a more confident and well-rounded player. By the end of this stage, you’ll be ready to play recreationally or take the next step toward more competitive play.
Lesson 4-10Lessons 4-10 – Game Strategy & Shot Variety Now, we’ll focus on improving your shot accuracy and placement while introducing key strategies for both singles and doubles play. You’ll learn essential skills like dinking, volleys, and controlled shot-making to help you dictate points. We’ll also work on court awareness, teaching you how to anticipate your opponent’s shots and position yourself effectively. Match play scenarios will help reinforce these concepts and prepare you for real gameplay situations.
Lesson 2-3Lessons 2-3 – Stroke Development & Serve Consistency Next, we’ll refine your forehand and backhand strokes, focusing on proper technique and consistency. You’ll practice basic serves, working on accuracy and depth. Movement drills will help reinforce correct footwork and positioning, ensuring you can move smoothly between shots. We’ll also introduce simple rallying exercises to help you maintain control during play.

We’ll also introduce you to advanced shots like lobs and spins and fine-tune your overall game performance to prepare you for competitive play. This structured plan ensures advanced players refine their technical skills, develop strategic awareness, and improve their overall gameplay to compete at a higher level. Let me know if you’d like any modifications!

Youth players
Working with kidsKids (Ages 6-12)—I would focus on the following three elements in my coaching sessions: 1. Focus on Fun & Engagement • Use games-based learning rather than strict drills. • Keep sessions short (30-45 minutes) with frequent breaks. • Incorporate imaginative games “target practice” with cones 2. Basic Motor Skills & Fundamentals • Prioritize hand-eye coordination, balance, and footwork through playful drills. • Use larger or slower-moving balls to make it easier to rally. • Simplify rules and court positioning so they grasp the basics 3. Positive Reinforcement • Keep feedback light and encouraging. • Celebrate small successes to build confidence. • Use stickers, high-fives, or mini-rewards to keep motivation high

Working with teenagersTeenagers (Ages 13-18)—I would focus on the following elements in their Practice sessions 1. Technical & Tactical Development • Focus more on stroke mechanics, consistency, and shot selection. • Introduce strategy (e.g., dinking battles, third-shot drops, and stacking in doubles). 2. Physical & Mental Conditioning • Incorporate fitness elements like agility drills and reaction-speed training. • Push competitive drills (king of the court, match simulations, tournament-style play). 3. Individualized Coaching & Goal Setting • Assess skill level and set clear improvement goals • Provide constructive criticism with actionable feedback.

What you need to bringProper Tennis/Pickleball shoes and a positive mindset to get better.
