Beginner training plan
Your first lessonOur first lesson will be setting our goals. Is there a specific paper that you are writing? A specific class you need help with? Perhaps a more general means of improving your paper? We will make sure that we both know where we are going. Whatever time we have left can be spent going over a draft of a paper written beforehand and getting feedback or learning about general expectations when writing essays. If the student does not have a topic they need to write on, I can provide one or help the student brainstorm a topic that can be focused on for our lessons.
Lesson 2-3Lessons will begin with a look at what the student has completed with their paper between sessions. This is a chance for us to read the paper together and figure out how to make it stronger. At this point the expectation will go from having a direction and a goal to what the student can do to ensure that they are properly pulling from sources or experiences to have a solid foundation for their paper.
Lesson 4-10These lessons will always begin with a review of the paper we are working on and feedback. These lessons will focus on taking what research the student has gathered and how to present that information in an appropriate and engaging style.
Lesson 11+Lessons past this point will still continue to review what the student has created, but the student will at this point have potentially more freedom to tailor their lessons and style to unique goals in writing, from writing personal essays to creative nonfiction to formal academic essays and beyond.

What you need to bringStudents should have a means of writing of their preference, whether that means writing with pencil/pen and paper or having a digital device to type. They should also bring any relevant material needed for their writing goals as applicable.

What I can bringI can bring analog writing utensils for students if requested, and I can also provide materials to help students advance their writing if there is not a specific goal students are working towards.
