About your reading and writing coach

I have been teaching in education for 20 years. I have taught all elementary school grades besides 2nd grade. In addition, I teach ESL and Writing courses to high school ACE students and traditional college students at Phoenix College. I have taught at the college level for 12 years as well.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFirst, I like to get to know students and their needs. I pre-assess their skills and create a learning path with input from the student.
Lesson 2-3Every lesson will have a quick write to allow the student to get their brain focused on the lesson at hand. Then we will go over the objective for the days lesson, skills we are learning, and the vocabulary that we will be covering that day. I use the format I Do, We do, you do in every lesson. This gives the modeling of the skill, then we practice the skill together, and finally you do is when the student practices the skill we are learning. This allows me to assess what is needed in the next lesson.
Lesson 4-10The I do, we do, and you do parts are still in each lesson but the focus is more on the you do as lessons progress. I reassess the student’s knowledge of the skill and provide different ways of teaching the skill if students do not master the skill.
Lesson 11+Reassess and reteach with a different strategy.

Jessica taught two of my children for a year. One of my kids needs special accommodations and as a mom I was extremely nervous about my child being in a public school setting. Jessica completely blew my expectations out of the water and put my mind at ease. My opinion is that she is experienced, engaging, and patient. My daughter improved so much in math and reading and on the flip side she was also able to keep my son engaged at a higher level when the curriculum wasn’t keeping his interest. I highly recommend her to other parents and would absolutely work with her again.
