Beginner training plan
Your first lessonDuring our first lesson we will evaluate your current level of playing, your goals, and what you want to get out of lessons.
Lesson 2-3In lessons 2-3 we’ll structure an individualized lesson and practice plan for that is tailored to your specific abilities and goals.
Lesson 4-10By lessons 4-10 we should start to see significant improvement in tone, reading abilities and overall musicality. We’ll focus on scales, technique building routines, tone exercises such as long tones, and progressing through etudes or solo pieces.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen teaching younger children, the focus is on high energy, gamification, and short, structured activities to match their attention spans. Lessons should be broken down into 5-to 10-minute blocks that alternate between physical movement (like clapping rhythms or marching to a beat) and instrument time. Instead of heavy music theory jargon, use imaginative metaphors and reward systems to keep them engaged. The goal here is to foster a sense of play, curiosity, and immediate success so they look forward to coming back each week.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, the approach shifts from gamification to collaboration, autonomy, and identity building. At this stage, students want a say in their repertoire, so integrating their favorite genres-whether pop, jazz, or video game soundtracksβ€”is crucial for keeping them motivated. Lessons should feel more like a mentorship, focusing on the mechanics of how to practice efficiently, setting long-term goals, and using music as a creative outlet or form of self-expression. You are no longer just guiding them through a method book; you are helping them develop their own artistic voice and problem-solving skills.

What you need to bringStudents should bring their instrument, reeds, and music.

Andre
Lessons are always the highlight of my week. There is a perfect balance of challenging technique work and playing music that is genuinely fun. I've fallen in love with the alto sax all over again.
Ryan
Beyond just notes and rhythms, I learned how to handle performance anxiety and play with real confidence. The lessons are tailored specifically to my personal goals and pace. An incredible mentor and musician.
Julian
The way jazz theory is connected directly to the horn makes so much sense now. I finally feel confident soloing over complex chord changes instead of just guessing notes. Absolutely brilliant instruction.
Sarah
As a adult beginner, I was nervous, but the lessons were incredibly patient and encouraging. The breakdown of embouchure and breath control made everything so much easier to grasp. I'm already playing my favorite tunes!
Natalie
Switching between different saxophones used to mess with my embouchure, but I got the perfect guidance to bridge the gap. The insights on reed selection was an added bonus. Five stars!
Marcus
Lessons completely transformed my approach to jazz improvisation. My tone has never sounded warmer or more focused, especially in the lower register. Highly recommend if you want to take your playing to the next level!
