Hi, My name is Mark Filatov! I am a classically-trained singer based in Brooklyn, NY, holding a Masters in Music for Voice from the Manhattan School of Music. When learning to sing, we always tend to work on our instrument almost all the time even through just regular speech, not to mention karaoke nights at home with family or at a party or simply jamming and singing along and having a good time with it, sometimes the inspiration comes from those experiences and then decide to give singing a shot! I've found my love for singing from just that, I was only 6, jamming to songs on the radio while on the road to the countryside, and then I fell in love with classical the moment when I first heard Pavarotti sing the Duke's aria from Verdi's Rigoletto when I was 8, my passions grew louder since then and have decided to pursue it. vocal training consists of various vocal exercises (warm ups and cooldowns) that help you navigate and discover what your voice can do, how it is done, and how to improve and maintain it, starting from how we stand, how we breath, and how we produce the sound. If you're starting out and didn't have a song in mind to sing, I recommend starting your journey in classical music with Schirmer's "The 24 Italian Songs and Arias" as it builds a steady foundation for classical singers, also Schirmer's Lieder Anthology, filled with beautiful songs you'll definitely enjoy singing, Same thing with the French Song Anthology by the same publisher, they're all essential books for classical singers of all voice types. I'm also definitely open to other styles as I also embarked on Musical theater for a time and I write pop music aside from my classical endeavors, with the goal of being as well rounded in vocal music of all types as I can, I played as Jean Valjean once in high school, that was my first ever performing musical theater as well as my first major role in a larger work such as a musical. As for coaching, we would utilize some vocal exercises and then work on the music, sometimes we will discuss on both the musical aspect of the music as well as the narrative/text, through this I say, singers are also actors, we portray ourselves through emotion to bring the text and music to life. With 12 years' experience being a choral nerd and a performing singer, along with being provided a lot of feedback through the years and the education I've had for my sic years at the Manhattan School of Music, I bring concert-level expertise to every lesson/coaching. I create a supportive environment where technique meets artistry, and we explore your unique sound together. Let's embark on your vocal journey!
