In the first session, I focus on building trust and establishing a fun, positive environment. I start with simple warm-up drills to assess the player’s current skill level, coordination, and comfort with the ball. I explain the structure of future sessions and set short-term goals together. The session ends with a light scrimmage or skill game to keep the energy high and build enthusiasm.
We focus on refining strengths and improving any weak areas. Sessions include high-intensity drills, complex combinations, and mental aspects like game IQ, confidence, and communication. I also begin to simulate real game challenges to prepare them for competitive play, encouraging leadership and independence on the field.
These sessions dive deeper into tactical awareness and more advanced ball control. I tailor drills based on the player’s development and introduce game-like scenarios, including 1v1 defending, positioning, and decision-making under pressure. Fitness and endurance training is gradually introduced. By this stage, players should begin understanding how to apply their skills in a match setting.
In these sessions, we begin working on foundational skills such as dribbling, passing, receiving, and shooting. I include basic agility drills and introduce small challenges to build confidence. We also start forming a training routine, incorporating feedback and focusing on developing consistency and proper technique.
