Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGetting Comfortable With the Ball Dribbling basics, passing intro, fun shooting, simple mini‑game.
Lesson 11+1. Warm‑up & Ball Mastery (5–10 min) – faster pace, advanced combos. 2. Skill Drill (10 min) – 1–2 advanced moves chained together. 3. Passing Patterns (10 min) – one‑touch passing, overlaps, give‑and‑go. 4. Small‑Sided Tactics (10–15 min) – 2v2 or 3v2 game with constraints (e.g. must make 3 passes before scoring). 5. Finishing Under Pressure (10 min) – defender closes down quickly after first touch. 6. Scrimmage (10 min) – Encourage creativity and applying new skills.
Lesson 4-10Warm‑up (5 min) Dynamic stretches, ball touches. Ball Mastery (10 min) Toe taps + V‑pulls, drag‑push, inside‑outside cuts. Skill Move of the Day (10 min) Teach one new move each session (step‑over, scissors, drag‑back). Passing/Receiving on the Move (10 min) Moving gates, give‑and‑go with cones. Small‑Sided Drill (10 min) 1v1, then progress to 2v1 or 2v2. Finishing Fun Drill (5–10 min) Timed shooting, target shooting, or penalty challenge. Mini‑Game / Scrimmage (10 min) Focus on using the new skill in game play.
Lesson 2-31. Warm‑up (5 min) – toe taps, inside/outside rolls, light dribble tag. 2. Dribbling (10 min) – weave through cones, add a “fake” move at the end. 3. Passing (10 min) – “gate passing” (pass through cone gates at varying distances). 4. Receiving (5 min) – trap and control using inside/outside of foot. 5. Shooting (10 min) – focus on laces shot, aiming for corners. 6. Mini‑game (10 min) – 1v1 or “score in 5 seconds” challenge. 7. Recap (5 min) – praise improvements, give one easy drill to practice at home.

Youth players
Working with kidsKeep Instructions Short • Kids lose focus quickly—give 10–20 second explanations, then let them try. • Demonstrate instead of explaining too much. Encourage, Don’t Criticize • Praise effort: “Great try! Next time, push the ball a little softer!” • Use positive reinforcement—stickers, high‑fives, or point systems. Lots of Ball Contact • Each child should have their own ball as much as possible. • Avoid long lines—set up multiple stations for dribbling, passing, and shooting. Short Segments • Change drills every 5–7 minutes. • Rotate between skills and fun games to keep energy high. Adjust Competition Levels • For very young kids (5–7): focus on fun, coordination, and basic touches. • For 8–12: add simple competition (1v1, point challenges). • Keep teams even to avoid frustration. Build Confidence First • Let them succeed early (bigger goals, fewer defenders). • Gradually add difficulty once they’re comfortable.

Working with teenagers✅ 1. Increase Challenge & Intensity • Add time limits, smaller spaces, or pressure from defenders to drills. • Example: Instead of slow cone dribbling → add a defender chasing them. ✅ 2. Focus on Real-Game Scenarios • Use 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 drills that mimic real decisions. • Teach when to dribble vs. pass vs. shoot. ✅ 3. Explain the “Why” • Teenagers stay engaged when they understand how a drill applies to a game. • Example: “This passing pattern is how you break pressure in midfield.” ✅ 4. Encourage Competition • Keep score in drills (who scores more goals, who completes the most passes). • Small challenges build intensity and focus. ✅ 5. Give Them Ownership • Let them set personal goals: weaker foot, faster passing, better first touch. • Ask questions: “What could you have done differently?” → Helps develop game IQ. ✅ 6. Balance Fun and Seriousness • Teenagers like competitions, challenges, and scrimmages, but too much lecturing loses them. • Use quick feedback, short demonstrations, and clear objectives.
