I grew up playing tennis and played second singles in college, where I also served as the team captain and assistant coach of our Division 3 team after an injury sidelined me. My experience both on the court and in a leadership role has given me a deep understanding of the game from multiple perspectives. I’m passionate about helping players of all levels improve their skills and strategies, and I’m excited to bring my experience and love for the sport to each coaching session!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGauging a player’s level and desire for improvement. Walking through basic ground strokes, serving and volleying.
Lesson 11+Continue drills and setting new benchmarks/goals. If player shows drastic improvement, start potential matchplay and talking about setting up official matches outside of coaching hours.
Lesson 4-10Get into the routine of drills and continue focusing on benchmarks/goals. End every lesson with a rally session to improve consistency and increase the level of comfort.
Lesson 2-3Based on the assessment from the first lesson, begin to focus on the aspect that needs the most improvement. Create benchmarks and attainable goals to track improvement.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonFirst and foremost I would assess the player’s level of play. This would be done through basic rallying to get comfortable with each other’s play style. I would also discuss with the player what they desire to get out of lessons. Benchmarks and goals are essential.
Lesson 11+Continue with drills, benchmarks, and goals. If the player is serious and exhibits a high level of motivation, I would be happy to discuss attending official UTR/USTA matches to sideline coach—if this is something that interests the player.
Lesson 4-10Continue working on drills and benchmarks/goals. If serious improvement is seen. Begin discussing playing official matches if this is not already being done.
Lesson 2-3Depending on the assessment I would design drills to better areas they need improvement in. Lessons would end in a rally session to improve consistency.
Youth players
Working with kidsIt can be challenging to motivate younger players to stay engaged. That being said, I would hope to have a group of younger players playing together. This way there is collaboration and friendly competition. Lessons would be taught with starter balls (easier to hit with) and games would be incorporated into lessons. This creates a balance of learning and fun. I have nieces/nephews and I have done camp counseling so I am very patient when it comes to dealing with younger kids!
Working with teenagersSimilar to my beginner level training process, I would assess the students level and adjust lessons/coaching to fit their needs. I think it would be beneficial to create a system of communication to understand what the student (and parent) desires to get out of lessons to bridge the communication gap between the student and their parent—I was young once too. I have experience playing tennis on a collegiate level in a very competitive conference, so I know the necessary steps it takes to get to that level. Games would be incorporated to keep up engagement/motivation, but they would be tailored towards matchplay. The goal should be to compete at a leisurely level—at the minimum.
