I am a native Californian who started playing tennis as a little boy. Eventually, I was ranked #1 on the Casa Grande High School tennis team in Petaluma, California, and went on to attend and play tennis at North Carolina State. I've been teaching for almost 20 years and am proud to have brought my tennis knowledge to the courts to pass on my skills and techniques.

I have had the pleasure of working Coach McClain for quite awhile now! I must say, Coach is very understanding and committed . I did not know anything about tennis when I joined and he slowly and patiently worked with me to teach me the basics! I was also traveling and had a busy schedule and coach was very understanding in rescheduling and my lessons went beyond a year and he was very understanding of that! Beyond his exceptional tennis expertise, Coach embodies the essence of a true mentor and friend he always takes some time to talk to you and get to know you better! By slowly focusing on one thing to improving another, my tennis skills have definitely started to grow with his coaching! His approach transcends the boundaries of traditional coaching; he takes the time to engage in meaningful conversations!! He is keen to pinpoint areas of improvement and he will show you how to focus on those areas, over and over again! Thanks to coach, I have definitely improved my forehand and backhand!!

Coach McClain's teaching methods are very effective and impactful within only a few sessions. During my first lesson, he skillfully observed and identified the areas that need to be fixed/corrected (as a non-beginner). He then focused on providing relevant solutions that are easy to retain and apply. He is patient/does not point out recurring mistakes as they happen, but rather waits for the student to iterate at their own pace. He also provides a lot of helpful context, and his feedback is goal-driven (e.g. how to improve in order to be able to rally). I am really enjoying re-learning tennis with him and would strongly recommend him to anyone interested in learning or improving their tennis skills.

Great guy, excellent coach with insightful high yield tips. I grew up playing competitive junior USTA tennis (I'm 4.0-4.5) and wanted to find an activity for my husband (3.0-3.5) and me to do on our days off. We take semi-private lessons with McClain who is able to tailor our lessons to our different skill levels. Is focused on helping us achieve our goals (to someday play mixed doubles together!) while being mindful of our busy schedules. Flexible with scheduling (amazing that our lessons never expire!) and responsive to texts. Unfortunately he doesn't teach kids anymore and occasionally has had to reschedule due to injuries, but his flexibility makes this no big deal. Highly recommend!

As others have mentioned, there really is no need to look any further than Coach McClain if you want to improve your tennis game, regardless of level. I've taken lessons across several sports / hobbies and what sets Coach McClain apart -- aside from his obvious skill and expertise -- is his ability to immediately identify and distill down technical improvements that make a huge difference. He makes it easy to swiftly correct technique and helps form lasting habits. Tennis lessons can sometimes feel too technical, but not with Coach McClain -- he integrates feedback with playing so the lessons are balanced with play and you genuinely enjoy the time.

I went back to take lessons from Coach McClain after two years or so off. I hadn't had much time to play tennis in the interim, but started picking it up again this year (I caught the Alcaraz bug like so many people) and just took my first lesson. Every time I stop playing for a while, my backhand gets bad, but Coach fixed it almost instantaneously with a few verbal cues. By the end of the lesson I was hitting it with at least some consistency, and when I played this weekend it felt much better. The plan of a few verbal reminders and mostly just rallying works really well for my skill level, and I'm happy I started up again.
