Curtis is a native of Springfield has been involved in tennis, the "sport of a lifetime," for 47 years as a player, coach, and teaching professional. He played on the APSU tennis team for four years, from 1977 to 1981, under Coach Dennis Emery, who is the former head coach at the University of Kentucky. Curtis is currently serving as an assistant to PTR National Tester and Friends of Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program Executive Director, Joe Goldthreate. He still assists Mr. Goldthreate in coaching nationally ranked juniors, collegiate, and professional players. Curtis, a PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) National Tester is the longest tenured coach at Springfield High School, taking their boys and girls teams to greater heights in his 36 years at the helm. Among his personal accomplishments are being recognized as the 2003 Tennessee PTR Assistant Pro of the Year, and the 2004 and 2019 Tennessee PTR Member of the Year. In 2013 Curtis was chosen PTR Coach Jim Verdieck High School Coach of the Year. Also, in 2012 the City of Springfield Mayor and Board of Alderman named the tennis courts in Springfield The Curtis Holland Tennis Complex at Garner Street Park. Curtis started the Curtis Holland Tennis Academy in 2002 and Garner Street Park Tennis Camps in 1987 with Dick Rolfe a former Ole Miss Tennis Player.
