With two decades of competitive tennis under my belt, I've spent the last 10 years imparting the essentials of the game to enthusiasts in our local community. My teaching methods have been greatly influenced by my 30-year tenure as a martial arts instructor, bringing a unique perspective to my tennis coaching. This combined experience has honed my ability to convey techniques effectively, ensuring that students not only learn the basics but also appreciate the discipline and dedication behind every stroke.

Ed is such a great & friendly instructor - I recommend him 100%! He explains the tennis fundamentals well, quickly spots errors in a player’s form and gives great advice on how to improve. Will definitely be keeping my lessons and super excited about the progress I will make with him as my coach!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonEvery lesson I have every student do a light 3 min warm up (calf raises, "heel walks', lunges with "sky reach" -- all to prevent the most common injuries in tennis. You then learn proper grips for various types of shots. We also warm up with about 10 min of "mini-tennis." And then you'll learn all the "particulars" of the first ground stroke, the forehand.
Lesson 11+At this point, a student should have a clear understanding of the technical aspects of at least the forehand. Everyone learns at a different pace so the serve may even be introduced if the student again, shows progress with the basic ground strokes.
Lesson 4-10Still reviewing/drilling the basic ground strokes. It may be just the forehand, or if the student displays good progress with the fore hand, we may be starting to learn the back hand stroke age then possibly combining both shots.
Lesson 2-3Warm ups and then review of the forehand. The goal is to get 10 shots in a row in the four target areas. Once that is accomplished, we can move to the backhand technique!

What you need to bringA racket, comfy outfit and some "tennis" shoes made for tennis! (Not running, walking, hiking, crosstraining shoes, etc.) However, basketball shoes will suffice too. Please bring your OWN RACKET which you can purchase on Amazon or at BIG 5 or DICK'S SPORTING GOODS.

What I can bringI bring the balls, the teaching, and the fun!
