Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI focus on getting the player comfortable and building confidence. We go over basic grips, simple swings, and rallying from a short distance. I keep it fun and easy so they can enjoy the game right away.
Lesson 2-3i start improving technique on forehand and backhand, while working on consistency. I introduce movement and basic footwork, and we begin rallying from the baseline.
Lesson 4-10i build stronger strokes and add serves, returns, and basic point play. I focus on consistency, control, and simple strategy while helping the player move better on court.
Lesson 11+i continue improving technique and focus more on match play, strategy, and confidence. Sessions are more game-based, helping the player feel comfortable playing real matches.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonGoal: build comfort + evaluate ability * Quick introduction and athletic movement check (coordination, balance, reaction) * Grip instruction (continental + basic forehand grip if needed) * Basic rally intro (mini-tennis from service box) * Teach: ready position, split step, basic forehand * Light focus on contact point and control over power * End with simple rally challenge (5–10 ball rally goal) Outcome: Player is comfortable hitting and understands basic structure of tennis.
Lesson 2-3Goal: develop consistency and basic stroke structure * Forehand repetition + rally consistency * Introduction of backhand (2-hand preferred for beginners) * Basic footwork patterns (side steps, recovery steps) * Serve introduction (toss + contact point) * Controlled rallies cross-court * Basic scoring explanation Outcome: Player can rally slowly with control and understands basic strokes.
Lesson 4-10Goal: build real playing ability and point structure * Forehand + backhand consistency under movement * Serve development (first serve + simple second serve) * Introduction to volleys and net play * Direction control (cross court vs down the line) * Footwork under pressure (live ball drills) * Basic match play introduction (short sets) * Tactical awareness (keeping ball in play, high percentage shots) Outcome: Player can play structured points and beginner-level matches.
Lesson 11+Goal: transition to match-ready and competitive tennis * Advanced rally patterns (2–3 shot combinations) * Serve + first shot strategy (serve + forehand setup) * Defensive vs offensive transitions * Match strategy (patterns, opponent targeting, shot selection) * Pressure drills (tie-breaks, big points) * Physical conditioning for tennis movement * Mental toughness training (focus, reset routines) Outcome: Player becomes match-ready with tactical awareness and competitive consistency.

Youth players
Working with kidsHow I adapt my lessons for children * I keep lessons fun, simple, and high-energy to maintain focus and enjoyment * I use short explanations and lots of demonstrations instead of long talking * I focus on basic coordination, balance, and motor skills before technical detail * I use games and challenges (targets, cones, mini-tennis, point-based drills) * I prioritize positive reinforcement to build confidence early * Equipment and court space are adjusted (lower bounce balls, shorter court when needed) * I introduce fundamentals gradually: grip, rallying, and basic movement Goal: Build love for tennis, confidence, and basic coordination.

Working with teenagersHow I adapt my lessons for teenagers * I increase technical detail and explain the β€œwhy” behind each drill * I introduce more structured training (rallies, patterns, and match situations) * I focus on developing consistency, power, and tactical decision-making * I add competitive drills and pressure-based scenarios (tie-breaks, point play) * I encourage self-correction and awareness of strengths/weaknesses * Fitness, footwork, and endurance become a bigger part of training * I prepare players for tournaments and competitive match play Goal: Develop disciplined, match-ready players with strong tactical understanding.
