Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFirst assess skill level while simultaneously going over the basics (grip, swing path, feet position). We will get some reps of each shot in to determine aptitude for the different strokes and then prioritize the most important areas to improve on.
Lesson 2-3We will continue to the develop their strokes while strokes with a focus on forehand and backhand while also introducing the footwork. A great drill for the is a side to side drill where the student hits a forehand followed by a backhand while moving from corner to corner. The student can also expect to begin rallying.
Lesson 4-10Subsequent lessons will be focusing on fleshing out the rest of the strokes (volleys, overhead, and serve) while continuing to build on the core groundstrokes (forehand and backhand).
Lesson 11+As we progress, there will be a growing focus on rallying and playing points, coming to net and being more aggressive. Set play will become a priority.
Youth players
Working with kidsI like to start my younger kids at the service line and have them hit with green or orange dot balls. We want to develop their strokes while working on coordination, ball reading and movement.
Working with teenagersTeenagers need a lot of engagement so I like to get them rallying and playing games as soon as possible.
