About your tennis coach

I’m currently a student at UCLA and a member of the university’s competitive club tennis team. Throughout high school, I competed in USTA national tournaments, reached a peak UTR of 9.35, and earned a national recruiting ranking of #241. I enjoy working with players of all ages and skill levels, whether they’re just starting out or looking to take their game to the next level.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFor a beginner, I will begin by drilling forehands and backhands. I will offer tips about technique and footwork while they are drilling. I will also assess the serve/teach the individual how to serve.
Lesson 2-3Lessons two and three will be similar to lesson 1. It is important to reinforce the techniques and movements we worked on from the first lessons to ensure the student masters these tips.
Lesson 4-10At this point, I will provide for specific drills for the student and further improve their serve. Once they are ready, I will begin live ball with the student to help them get a sense of what it feels like to play points in tennis.
Lesson 11+Once we get past 10 lessons, the student should be able to comfortably hit the tennis ball and have a sense of why and how they are hitting the ball in a certain direction. There is always room to improve. When one part of the technique is improved, I may realize that footwork needs improved. This process continues, and over time, the individual will start to feel very comfortable hitting the tennis ball with speed and accuracy.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonFor the first lessons, I will still have to get a sense of this person’s playing style and level of advancement. I will do quick drills on the forehand, backhand, volleys, and overheads. I will also assess the serve.
Lesson 2-3After the first lesson, I will add cone drills to improve footwork and measure the person’s fitness. I will place importance on critiquing the serve, if necessary and feeding tennis balls across the court to make the shots more difficult.
Lesson 4-10For an advanced tennis player, the rest of the lessons will largely be based on what they need to improve at that certain moment. I may need to feed this person heavy, high-spin tennis balls because they struggle returning those shots. Maybe, we will work on their volleys because that is a weak part of their game. Really, this process just depends on the individual.
Lesson 11+Hopefully, this person is playing tennis tournaments, so we can assess how they are doing in these tournaments, what went wrong, and what we need to improve for the future. The structure of the lessons will be similar to lessons 4-10.

Youth players
Working with kidsI will make sure that I am very patient toward younger kids and ensure that they are having a fun time playing tennis. When you are first learning how to play, enjoying the sport is crucial to a successful future.

Working with teenagersSince I was just a teenager, I can easily relate to kids of this level. I understand where their tennis level may be at, and I will readily know what needs improved.

What you need to bringPlease bring tennis shoes, a tennis racket, and a water bottle.

What I can bringTennis balls, cones
