Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIn the first lesson, I focus on building a strong foundation. We cover how to properly hold the trumpet, correct posture, and basic breathing techniques for tone production. The student learns how to buzz on the mouthpiece and produce their first clear sound on the instrument. I also introduce simple rhythm exercises and the first few notes (usually C, D, and E) to start developing pitch awareness.
Lesson 11+Students continue to refine tone, flexibility, and endurance while learning new scales and intermediate-level songs. Lessons include sight-reading, ear training, and improvisation basics. By this point, students are able to play short pieces with confidence, express musical emotion, and build the skills needed to join a band or ensemble.
Lesson 4-10By this stage, students expand their range, learn basic scales (C major and G major), and start practicing simple melodies from popular or classical tunes. We focus on articulation (tonguing), dynamic control, and consistent practice habits. Students begin to play along with backing tracks to develop timing and musicality.
Lesson 2-3Students begin to strengthen their embouchure and breath control through short tone and flexibility exercises. We work on reading basic music notation, simple songs using 3–5 notes, and steady rhythm practice with a metronome. Emphasis is placed on producing a clean, centered tone and understanding musical phrasing.
What you need to bringStudents should bring their own trumpet, mouthpiece, valve oil, and a notebook for lesson notes. A music stand and a tuner/metronome (app or device) are highly recommended. For online lessons, please ensure a stable internet connection, good lighting, and have your instrument ready and tuned before class.
What I can bringI can provide sheet music, warm-up and technical exercises, backing tracks, and demonstration videos during lessons. I also use a keyboard and metronome to support rhythm and pitch training when needed. For in-person lessons, I bring my trumpet for demonstration and ensemble playing.
