Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWhen you begin, you will learn about your instrument and proper posture when playing it. I will give you many tips on how to play the violin smoothly and in tune. In the first few lessons you will learn how to place your fingers on the strings and make music.
Lesson 2-3Soon you will begin to play simple songs and scales.
Lesson 4-10From there, you will work on all the skills that make a violin sound gorgeous and begin reading music and playing it.
Lesson 11+There is no limit to what you can accomplish. If you practice on your own between lessons, you will gain skills quickly. And I will guide you and make sure you are learning properly.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAdvanced students will show me their skill level by playing a song for me. We will do some sight-reading maybe and discuss what music they have already learned. I will give you at least one challenge if not many before we part ways. 😊
Lesson 2-3I will determine the music I wish to work on with you and also ask you what you want to work on. We will begin learning music and doing exercises that will help you improve every single week.
Lesson 4-10You can expect me to give you weekly assignments that will challenge you and require practice and inspire excellence!
Lesson 11+As you are improving your skills, you can expect that I will talk with you about your goals and encourage you to find places to perform. I will require that you keep every single piece of music you have learned so that you have all the songs in your repertoire on hand. You will get better as you perform and refine your skills.
Youth players
Working with kidsWhen a child is learning the violin, we will go at a pace that is comfortable for him. We will learn skills so much faster than they ever will in a school orchestra. And children that are too young to be in the school orchestra will be highly skilled before they ever get there. But I love to watch children learn to play because they are like sponges and soak up a lot of information fast and learn quickly. And I started my violin lessons at age 4, and I know children that small are totally capable of learning to play.
Working with teenagersWhen we work together, we will start right where you are and correct any bad habits you have developed (if you have any). We will make sure posture is great and skills are being executed in the easiest way possible. And we will have a great time doing it. We have a lot of fun playing this awesome instrument. 😊
What you need to bringYou will need a violin with a bow in a case. I can recommend where to get a violin if you need. We can talk about it before you get one. You will need a shoulder rest and rosin and a notebook: 8 x 10 1/2-inch, one-subject, spiral-bound notebook for assignments. When we meet, we can talk about what music or music books you will need. You can bring any music you have already played or books in which you are currently working.
What I can bringI will provide a music studio schedule and anything else we might need.
