Build comfort, assess skills, and start with the basics.
I start with a warm-up and light footwork drills to get their body moving and nerves settled. Then I walk through the fundamentals: proper hand placement for passing, ready position, and how to move to the ball. We’ll do basic passing drills like “Toss & Pass” to work on technique. I end with fun, low-pressure games so they leave confident and excited.
Game strategy, confidence, and competitive reps.
These sessions are tailored to their progress. We’ll run full court drills, mock games, work on mental toughness, court communication, and advanced movement. I focus on sharpening their strengths while fixing habits that hold them back.
Skill development, repetition, and game awareness.
We’ll go deeper into serving (float serve, consistency), setting with accuracy, and introduce hitting footwork and arm swing mechanics. More team-based drills like “pepper,” serve receive rotations, and hitting lines. By lesson 10, they’ll feel ready to play in a real scrimmage!
Reinforce basics + introduce new skills.
We’ll sharpen passing with more movement, then introduce setting and underhand serving. I’ll show form, then we drill with simple progressions. Each drill builds muscle memory and court awareness. We finish with mini games that combine the new skills—fun and functional.
Assess strengths, identify gaps, and set a tone.
I start with a dynamic warm-up and quick skill eval through serve-receive, approach, and defensive footwork reps. I watch their timing, communication, and ball control in movement drills. We’ll run a fast-paced pepper series, then transition into serve + transition drills to test how they respond in game-like sequences. I’ll provide detailed feedback and we’ll set performance goals together based on their position and level.
Game readiness, leadership, and mental performance.
These sessions simulate match scenarios, run advanced serve receive patterns, and polish read-based defense. I’ll integrate clutch performance drills and train mental reset routines. I also mentor athletes on court leadership and collegiate prep if that’s part of their journey.
Competitive sharpness + position-specific mastery.
At this stage we hone in on position roles: pin hitters polish approach variations and shots, setters work tempo and deception, liberos drill aggressive serve receive and pursuit defense. I include breakdown film (if available), reaction drills, and pressure reps like game-to-5 or one mistake = reset drills. Each session is intense, focused, and intentional.
Targeted skill development + efficiency under pressure.
We refine mechanics in key areas (e.g., aggressive serving, blocking footwork, or off-speed hitting). Drills like 3-contact transition and out-of-system execution help sharpen decision-making. I challenge them with quick tempo drills and finish with score-based mini-games to increase accountability and pace.
