Bio: I began playing golf after working at a summer camp in the late 90’s. I signed up to coach basketball, but the Bulls were in the Finals again, so by the time I got to camp, the only sport left to coach was golf, and I had zero playing or coaching experience in that sport. I had been an athlete all my life and a coach for almost a decade by that point, so I figured, “How hard can it be?” I found out quickly it was very hard. I spent that summer learning the game from 10 year olds. Going to the local course in rural Pennsylvania, sun getting low as we’re out there laughing and having a blast, usually at my expense. I vividly remember my mind being blown at the concept of hitting down, to make the ball go up. Fascinating! I got hooked, came home after camp, jumped into any and everything golf; Tiger Woods, Dave Pelz, Rick Smith, David Ledbetter, Golf Channel, etc., etc. I got pretty good quickly, played all over the place, signed up to attend a golf instructor school, and the rest is history. I’ve given lessons coast to coast, including Maui, Scottsdale, NYC, San Diego and even Tijuana. I have a deep knowledge of the game and a sincere passion to help anyone learn the game I have come to love so much. My independent teaching company is called, Foreplay Golf- Get It In The Hole… I was injured for a few years and unable to teach or even play but I’m feeling even better than before and I’m ready to start giving lessons again. Bio: Mike turned pro in September of 1978. He won 5 Golden State mini-tour events, and the 1980 San Diego County Open at Torrey Pines with a four round total of ten under par. He finished 5th at the Cottonwood Golf Club County Open the following year, with a -11 total. In 1981, he went to finals of PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament at Pinehurst #6, and missed getting his tour card by only 5 shots. Mike accepted the position of head coach of the UC San Diego Men’s Golf team in December of 1979, and was married the same year. Since beginning as head coach, Mike has lead his team to post-season NCAA play every season. He instructed the Individual National Champion in 1987 and the National Championship Team in 1993. His team has had 13 top-five finishes in NCAA National Championships, including five second-place finishes. In 1995, Coach Mike became the director of the Nike Junior Golf Camp at Torrey Pines/La Jolla, and it quickly became one of Nike’s most popular and successful Summer programs. At the week-long resident camp, juniors aged 8 to 18 play some of San Diego’s best courses and enjoy evening entertainment.★5.05

Bio: Alan has been employed at Steele Canyon since January 1998. He began working in outside guest services then moved into the golf shop in 2001 and handled member events, group outings, and corporate tournaments before becoming Head Golf Professional in 2013. His work experience continued to grow and he has now taken over as the General Manager at Steele Canyon. He is deeply rooted in the San Diego area graduating from Monte Vista High School and then UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Graphics. During his education, Alan also played golf at the collegiate level and maintained a 73.5 stroke average. He is a 2-time U.S. Amateur participant at Oakmont CC in 2003 and Merion CC in 2005, before turning Professional in 2006 and playing on the A.G. Spanos Tour for 1 year.
