Juan Felipe Villanueva Contreras Musician, violinist and violist Juan Felipe Villanueva Contreras was born in Ibague, Colombia, in December 2000, with a passion for music that has defined his journey from an early age. He started his journey at the prestigious Conservatorio de Musica de Ibague, where he discovered his love for the violin under the tutelage of renowned musician Daniel Oviedo Galeano. His dedication and commitment to his craft led him to excel in his high school studies, culminating in his graduation in 2017 with a Music Honor Diploma of Excellence. Eager to continue his musical education, Juan Villanueva embarked on his collegiate journey at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2018, further honing his skills and knowledge in the world of music. In 2020, Juan Villanueva’s remarkable talent and unwavering dedication were recognized when he received a scholarship to study at Rowan University. Under the guidance of the esteemed Dr. Timothy Schwarz, he delved into the art of violin performance, embracing the challenges and opportunities that come with pursuing excellence in music. Today, Juan Felipe is a Music Performance major with a minor in viola, continually expanding his horizons as a versatile musician. In 2023 Juan Villanueva, was selected as winner of the Viola Concerto Competition, making his debut as a Soloist with Rowan University Symphony Orchestra performing “Romanze for Viola and Orchestra” by the german composer Max Bruch. In 2024 Juan Villanueva was selected as winner of the Orchestra Concerto competition 2024 performing “Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D mayor” as soloist with Rowan University Symphonic Orchestra. Currently, Juan Felipe is under the expert guidance of Dr. Timothy Schwarz, who serves as his Violin professor. With a bright future ahead, Juan Felipe Villanueva Contreras is poised to make a lasting mark on the world of music, combining his Colombian heritage and international education to create a harmonious blend of musical excellence.
