Hello, my name is David. I live in Las Vegas, NV, and before that lived in New York City, Mexico City, Cuba and Reno, NV where I played and taught music professionally. I received my Bachelor's degree in Jazz from the University of Nevada, Reno. I have played drum set since I was 5 years old, and Afro-Cuban percussion for 11 years. I teach drum set, snare drum, congas and other latin percussion. I teach many different genres, such as rock, jazz, funk, marching, Latin, and many more. In my lessons, you can expect a strong focus on fundamentals, technique and rudiments, balanced with learning to groove, interact and improvise within the style of music you want to perform. I love helping students with music they're learning for school bands, or come up with their own grooves for their own bands and music. I'm looking forward to helping you achieve your musical goals, thank you for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!

What began as a small group of kids and teenagers learning guitar, drums, and keyboard has evolved into a thriving space for musical education. Mel's influence extends to his four children, each displaying impressive musical talents. Mel Dominic, Mel Anthony, Mel Dave, and Marianne Ethel have embraced various instruments, including the keyboard, guitar, flute, saxophone, bass guitar, beatbox, and more. Their performances at school, church activities, and social occasions reflect the family's musical prowess, uplifting spirits and providing comfort. In continuation of his commitment to nurturing musical talent, Rommel C. Atienza established Summer Musikahan. This initiative aims to serve children and young individuals who share a passion for music, creating an environment where musical talents can flourish.
