Coach Joël Slagtand - Basketball Coach & Mentor I’ve been passionate about the game of basketball since 1995, when I first fell in love with the sport. That passion has grown into a lifelong commitment—not only to the game itself but to the powerful lessons it teaches on and off the court. With years of experience coaching in the Miami, Florida recreational league within the Jewish community, I’ve dedicated myself to developing players holistically. My coaching philosophy centers around mental performance, creating a championship mindset, and fostering personal growth. I believe in building strong character, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and using basketball as a tool for life-long wellness and leadership. My mission is to inspire athletes to be their best—mentally, physically, and emotionally—while developing a genuine love for the game.

Hi! My name is Brooklyn. I love the game of basketball, and I love teaching kids. I played basketball in elementary, middle school, high-school, and competitive AAU basketball. Unfortunately, two shoulder surgeries put my basketball playing to an end. I have an 8 year old daughter and have coached her basketball team the last 2 years. Watching these young girls really engage and learn the game of basketball, relit the fire in me to somehow get back in this game. It would be an absolute honor and privilege to share my love and knowledge of the game with your young one!

Basketball is a beautiful game! I have played most of my life, including collegiately. I’ve coached at the Boys and Girls Club as a volunteer and have helped many kids to find the fun in basketball. I put the fun in “fundamentals”! If you learn to dribble, pass, shoot and defend, it’s a fluid and fun game. I encourage anybody to learn! Let’s have some fun and become the best baller we can be!
