Coach Joël Slagtand - Basketball Coach & Mentor I’ve been passionate about the game of basketball since 1995, when I first fell in love with the sport. That passion has grown into a lifelong commitment—not only to the game itself but to the powerful lessons it teaches on and off the court. With years of experience coaching in the Miami, Florida recreational league within the Jewish community, I’ve dedicated myself to developing players holistically. My coaching philosophy centers around mental performance, creating a championship mindset, and fostering personal growth. I believe in building strong character, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and using basketball as a tool for life-long wellness and leadership. My mission is to inspire athletes to be their best—mentally, physically, and emotionally—while developing a genuine love for the game.
"The first lesson with Coach Joel was amazing.. He is very personable, understands the game and coached in a way that allowed my 9 year old to see immediate progress. Looking forward to the next lesson. Thank you!

My name is Byron Cubit Jr, and I’m a passionate basketball coach from Kansas City, Missouri. Basketball has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old, and throughout my journey as a player, I learned that the game is about more than just skills—it’s about character, discipline, and growth on and off the court. I played four years of high school basketball, starting my career at Blue Valley North before transferring to Olathe North High School, where I earned a varsity spot as a sophomore. By my junior year, I was the starting guard, known for my defensive energy, ability to guard the opposing team’s best player, knock down the three, and run the offense with leadership and confidence. I finished my senior year at Lancaster High School in Texas, continuing my dedication to the game. I continued my basketball career at Arkansas Baptist College until a wrist injury required surgery. During my recovery, I found a new passion—coaching. I coached a summer league team for a year, and that experience opened my eyes to how much I love working with kids and helping them grow not just as athletes, but as young people. After that, I returned to college, but coaching never left my heart. As a coach, I believe in teaching the game the right way while also teaching life. I want young athletes to understand that success comes from hard work, discipline, and confidence—nothing is handed to you. I always encourage players to have fun, embrace the grind, and believe in themselves on and off the court. What sets me apart is the support I give my players beyond basketball. Whether they need help in the classroom, at home, or navigating life, I show up. I’m committed to motivating and guiding each player to reach their highest potential as an athlete and as a person. I coach because I truly love it, and I want to inspire the next generation with the same passion, joy, and determination that basketball gave me.
With two decades on the court, I've honed a coaching approach that balances skill-building with a genuine love for the game. My passion is helping players of all levels unlock their full potential through tailored training and a positive learning environment.
With 20 years of basketball instruction, I foster skill development and strategic thinking in athletes. My dedication and passion will empower you to reach your full potential on and off the court, while keeping our training fun.
With five years of basketball instruction, I foster skill development and sportsmanship. I am dedicated to helping players achieve their potential through tailored training programs. I believe learning is always more effective with a healthy dose of fun! In order to be a successful player you have to be willing to put in the work. The off season is where skills are developed and perfected and where an individual can really stand out from the rest. Commitment and practice will propel you forward and shape you into the player you dream of.

Hi! My name is Brooklyn. I love the game of basketball, and I love teaching kids. I played basketball in elementary, middle school, high-school, and competitive AAU basketball. Unfortunately, two shoulder surgeries put my basketball playing to an end. I have an 8 year old daughter and have coached her basketball team the last 2 years. Watching these young girls really engage and learn the game of basketball, relit the fire in me to somehow get back in this game. It would be an absolute honor and privilege to share my love and knowledge of the game with your young one!

Basketball is a beautiful game! I have played most of my life, including collegiately. I’ve coached at the Boys and Girls Club as a volunteer and have helped many kids to find the fun in basketball. I put the fun in “fundamentals”! If you learn to dribble, pass, shoot and defend, it’s a fluid and fun game. I encourage anybody to learn! Let’s have some fun and become the best baller we can be!
With 15 years dedicated to honing basketball skills, I empower players to excel. My experience fosters both fundamental mastery and strategic thinking. Join me to elevate your game with focused training!
