Louis Mitten is a Brooklyn-based classical guitarist and composer. Born in Tampa, Florida, Louis began playing guitar when he was eight, performing pop and rock songs around the local Tampa Bay area. Louis went to Blake High School to study classical guitar with John Parris performing solo and chamber recitals. He then went to Florida State University to complete his degree in guitar performance with Bruce Holzman and Celso Cano, teaching, performing and studying guitar pedagogy. Louis is now located in Brooklyn, performing and teaching throughout New York City and competing internationally in classical guitar competitions.

I adapt my lesson for kids by first making sure that they have the appropriate size guitar. Younger students from ages 5-8 should purchase a 1/2 or 3/4 size guitar. Second, I will demonstrate solid mechanical movements to young students that they can copy to start developing their hand mechanics for the guitar.
