Beginner training plan
Your first lessonBefore we go on the court, I will ask you about your athletic background and if you have ever played a racquet/paddle sport before. I'll tell you what's different about Pickleball - what to expect. I'll give you a 1-page summary of How to Play Pickleball, if you need it. Then, if needed, we'll go on the court and I'll explain the lines and some basic rules. Next, I will demonstrate the basic strokes you need to play the game and let you try them, That tells us what you need to work on & practice. Last we'll briefly do a 3-ball drill that simulates playing. if you already have the ability, we'll work on specific strokes, movements or strategies you want to improve so you can play better.
Lesson 11+Most beginners don't need more lessons to play socially. But, if you are serious about league or tournament play, we can continue working on strokes, spins, movement, and consistency. If needed, I will refer you to a "hitting partner" or tournament level coach.
Lesson 4-10We'll just keep working on improving your weakest strokes, consistency, trying a few spins & slices, perfecting your overhead smashes and "dinking your opponent to death." After 2 or 3 lessons, you will be capable of playing and enjoying social games with friends or other players at the same level.
Lesson 2-3Once we see what your level is and what you need to work on, we do specific drills to work on those. We'll start using targets, stroke combinations and a ball machine to work on consistency. Pickleball is not a game of "how hard you can hit the ball."

Youth players
Working with kidsI have developed a curriculum for teaching 6-8 year old or 9-12 year old children to play pickleball that makes learning to play fun. It includes agility exercises, coordination exercizes, tricks with paddles & balls, and several hitting games that make practice fun. I use a foam ball and we don't play regular games with the youngest group. The older ones only use some of the rules, but they do play games, use a regular ball and keep score.

Working with teenagersDepending on their athletic background, teenagers are coached like beginning adults, but with patience and encouragement. The pace is slower than adults and the emphasis is on having fun. There are agility and strengthening drills, hitting drills, rules quizes and actual game play. Teen lessons are more fun with 2 or more players.

What you need to bringI encourage you to try some paddles before you buy one and never buy the heavy, cheapest one.

What I can bringI have everything from paddles to balls and nets, plus court marking tape, strips and chalk. Nothing is needed.
