Hi there! My name is Samuel, but you can call me coach Sam. All of the best things that have happened in my life came from having a positive outlook. Having an optimistic perspective on improvement is a key factor in reaching your fullest potential. When I step on to a tennis court as a coach, I make it a priority of mine to instill that positive outlook in my students no matter their age, skill level or life circumstances. I like to say I use tennis as a tool to help my students fall in love with the journey of improvement... That's how you get the best results. Tennis is a sport that you can play for your entire life. If you decide to take lessons with me, I'll aim to give you the tools you need to maintain a healthy body, mind and spirit for as long as you'd like.

Sam is a wonderful person to be around, the fact he knows tennis inside and out is just a plus. He’s helped me develop my game and get to a level where I could compete with my friends. He’s also instilled a confidence in me that I never had before… Can’t recommend him enough.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThe first lesson is always the toughest, but it’s arguably the most important. Establishing your goals will set the tone for your development going forward.
Lesson 11+At this point we should be talking big picture. You’ll have a basic understanding of the fundamentals and from this point on it’s going to be about patiently waiting for them to become muscle memory. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!
Lesson 4-10Depending on how quickly you appear to be improving we may delve in to more advanced shots like the serve, volley, overhead and slice. Continued work on the forehand and backhand.
Lesson 2-3We work on fundamentals… Forehand & backhand. Keep it very simple, lots of repetition.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonHitting / skill assessment / goal breakdown
Lesson 11+At this point I’d hope we’ve established a rhythm. Lessons from here on out will be personalized depending on our progress up until this point and the goals we set at the beginning.
Lesson 4-10High intensity interval training pertaining to areas of strength coupled with previously mentioned drills on weaker parts of the game. Instilling confidence in the strengths while continuing to develop the weaknesses.
Lesson 2-3Compartmentalized training on predetermined areas of weakness. Working out the kinks.

Youth players
Working with kidsIn all honesty, It completely depends on the age & maturity of the kid. If they are able to listen/have a conversation then the lesson will be very different from kid who cannot. I make sure the lesson remains fun & engaging while also tiring them out. Everything beyond that remains to be seen.

Working with teenagersMaking sure they are comfortable is the #1 priority. I’m a new person and if they don’t feel comfortable giving it their all in front of me because they don’t know me then the lesson was for nothing. Once we’ve got some sort of bond I make a point of instilling a sense of confidence in them so they feel excited to hit the next ball.

What you need to bring- A tennis racquet (feel free to reach out for recommendations) - Tennis shoes (not running shoes) - Proper tennis attire

What I can bring- Tennis balls - Tennis ball retrievers - Agility ladders - Low profile cones (for targets & footwork) - Other athletic gear
