It was just me, a paddle, and the curiosity to see what this “pickleball game” was all about. Fast forward to today, and I’m now a 5.0+ DUPR rated player who has medaled in 14 out of 15 tournaments, including the PPA Tour. My most recent win was achieving gold at the 5.0 level. What sets me apart isn’t just the wins—it’s how I got there. I broke my left hand three years ago (yep, the one I use for everything), so I taught myself to play right handed. The result? Hey, I’m Donovan and I’ve played football for four years in high school and played a semester of flag football in college. I was also a football coach for a middle school football team. My coaching style is firm but fair. I like to focus on development and discipline. See where they’re at, what they need to improve on and then gradually increase the workload. I’d start with conditioning, body control/ footwork, and then transition into offensive and defensive drills.

He has been around tennis (competing, learning and coaching) for the past 43 years and loves every minute of it. Monty graduated from UC Riverside with a degree in business.
