About Brad

I am a former NCAA Division I player who has taught a plethora of kids, teens and adults to play this great game more competitively. I've always been passionate about tennis, and my journey has taken me to some incredible places. I played Division I tennis in college, competing in both singles and doubles, and even reached the finals of the 1984 Olympic Trials. Those experiences taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and the thrill of competition. Today, I still love the game and am always looking for ways to improve my skills and share my passion with others.

What students say...

"β€œCoach Brad is absolutely wonderful with our girls 8 and 10. They are learning quickly and have never been more excited about the sport. We could not be happier, and we look forward to their continued progress. Thank you, Coach Brad!” -Mollye Bergen

Why take tennis lessons in Austin?

Central Texas weather supports outdoor tennis roughly 300 days a year, which lets Austin students hold a consistent weekly cadence outside the hottest weeks of July and August. Most Austin tennis coaches teach on hard courts at public parks and school venues (Westenfield Neighborhood Park, Crockett High School, Joslin Park, Anderson High School - Mesa Dr, Kealing Junior High, Onion Creek Metropolitan Park), with indoor backup available at private clubs when summer heat or spring storms hit. Several active coaches carry serious tennis backgrounds - a Certified Tennis Professional with 40+ years on court (460 reviews on TeachMe.To), a former college player and 5.0-level competitor, a long-time tournament player with a Texas sectional Men's Open title and 6.0 NTRP rating, and a decade-experienced tennis instructor. That mix means an Austin student can match a coach to a goal: USTA league prep, junior development, varsity team prep, or first-time adult fundamentals. Hard court is the default surface here; clay is rare and limited to a few private clubs.

Find a tennis coach for your goal

  • Adult beginners

Patient instructors with strong first-lesson reviews and entry-level pricing for brand-new players. Plan 4-6 weekly 60-minute sessions to lock grip, stance, forehand, backhand, and a serve toss before adding rally-based drills.

What to look for: Listings with reviews from adult-beginner students mentioning patience and clear explanation; pricing in the $80-$110 range; coaches teaching at lower-traffic public courts (Westenfield, Joslin, Kealing) that are comfortable for first-time players.

    Try Cecil L.
  • Building a competitive game

Tournament-tier coaches who can rebuild strokes and prep students for USTA league, sectional play, or junior tournament circuits. Sessions usually 90 minutes, often paired with between-lesson hitting sessions or match play.

What to look for: Playing-background signals (NTRP 5.0+, sectional titles, former college players); pricing in the $140+ tier; coaches who explicitly mention tournament, NTRP, or competitive-level experience in their headline.

    Try Brian S.
  • High-volume teaching experience

Coaches who've delivered hundreds of lessons read student patterns fast and adapt week to week. Better fit if you want a long-term tennis pro rather than a one-off lesson - they've seen players go from first racquet to club-level competitor.

What to look for: Review count above 100; consistent 4.95+ rating across that volume; coverage at venues you can practice on solo between sessions.
