Learn Piano with Richard

💰$50 weekly lessons

With 33 years of enchanting the keys, I am Richard—a maestro of the piano and a mentor to aspiring musicians. My musical odyssey began at a tender age of 6, fingers dancing on the ivory, crafting melodies that resonated with the very soul of music. As the years unfolded, so did my passion, and by the age of 16, I was guiding fellow enthusiasts on their own musical quests. Having graduated high school at 16, adorned with a certificate of merit for music excellence, I set forth on a journey of formal education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, fueled by a full scholarship. The Bay Area became my stage, witnessing countless solo and ensemble performances. I embraced diverse styles, accompanying in classical, jazz, and pop performances, and even graced the sacred halls of St. Peter's at the Vatican during a choir accompaniment in Italy. Furthering my musical prowess, I pursued a master's degree in music at San Francisco State University, clinching the MTAC award for teaching and triumphing in the William Corbett-Jones Piano Competition. In 2020, I orchestrated a move to Los Angeles, stepping into the realm of studio production and film scoring, all the while continuing to enrapture audiences with solo and group performances, embracing classical, jazz, and pop. My love for music extends beyond the traditional realms. I've found immense fulfillment at the Glenn Campbell Studio, where I lead special education music therapy classes, creating harmonies that resonate deeply with students of special needs. Through each note I play and every student I teach, I strive to convey the boundless magic of music.

Richard Thomas has been my son’s piano teacher for nearly two years. He sets the tone by showing and playing remarkably that keeps my son motivated to practice and hopes to achieve one day. Furthermore, Richard is patient, understanding and allows the learning process to evolve at my son’s pace. But what makes Richard a great piano teacher is his method of balancing serious and fun. His dedication to his craft and commitment to the student help build effective practice habits, guide on methodology and technique, evaluate the music that result in successful lesson plans. All this on a friendly platform that makes my son feel comfortable and driven which keeps him interested to learn more.

As a percussionist and newbie pianist, I feel that Richard's teaching style has helped me drastically in my understanding of playing piano and music theory as well. He's taken me to a whole new level musically and it has begun to show in my rehearsals with my school's big band. He's very patient and makes learning the instrument very fun. He's a great teacher and any student he has should be lucky to have him!

Richard is an amazing piano teacher. He will make you feel comfortable enough to try what challenges you. I learn quickly, but he expedites the process. He is very flexible and knowledgeable in teaching you; if you feel like one way doesn't work for you, he will find multiple ways until it clicks. His passion for piano will rub off on you.
