Meet Michael Grier, a basketball lifer with a passion for teaching the game. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, and now based in Atlanta, Georgia, he has amassed over 30 years of head coaching experience across high school, middle school, and AAU levels. Alongside coaching, Michael has spent just as many years dedicated to skill development training, leaving a lasting impact on aspiring athletes as he continues to share his love and expertise for basketball.

Early on basketball was something I loved when I found out that You have to dribble the ball and score It. Then I was introduced to Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant and my love for the game of basketball took off to another level when that’s all I wanted to do! I played middle school and high school for my school team as well as AAU during the summer time while attending school workouts. Entering my junior year I make the team but the doctor needs a physical so at that point I find out I have scoliosis and cannot play competitively how I’d liked to without pain in my back. So I dive into the analytics and processing the breakdown of the game for years until I moved to Atlanta. I’ve been coaching for the Atlanta Strikers for 3 years coaching from ages 11-17. We have traveled out of state to compete in tournaments. Won nationals in Tennessee for 7th grade, won nationals in Virginia Beach for 8th grade, and competed in circuit-level play for 9th grade and varsity. My love for teaching the game the right way runs deep because I idolized Hall of Fame players growing up and want the game to continue to impact lives the way It did mine.

I have been working in this space since 1988 in Australia, specializing in working with young people from low socio-economic regions to professional players in Australia’s National Basketball League. I am confident in ability to support individuals in their journey towards personal and professional growth on and off the court. Throughout my career I have worked with a diverse range of clients from elementary, high school, state representative players (National U14, U16, U18, U22 and professional players), youth detention centers, women and men prisons, helping them to identify and achieve their goals through a holistic approach that encompasses mental, emotional, physical, and wellbeing.
